The rate at which young children and teenagers suffer depression, consider suicide and abuse dangerous substances has become alarming across the country. According to reports from the World Health Organization (WHO), half of all the mental illness, begin at age 14 while three-quarter of this number is seen by mid-20s. The implication of this statistics is that a vast number of young people suffer mental health challenges. However, lack of required intervention at such an early age prevents many of them from growing into healthy adults that can effectively navigate through life’s ups and downs.
To tackle this issue of mental health crises in young people, the management of Corona Schools, one of the foremost providers of post-primary education and a prestigious customer of VDT Communications organised a free one-day symposium for teachers, parents and school management at Tafawa Balewa Square auditorium, Lagos on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019.
The well-attended event saw a number of experts shed light on major topics and factors affecting mental health in children. Mrs. Adedoyin Adesina, the CEO of Corona Schools Trust Council, welcomed all attendees to the event, making mention of the worrisome state the issue of mental health in children had become.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Adesina said, “Mental health issues have become more disastrous than sicknesses like diabetes, asthma, cancer and even HIV. This is the time for parents, teachers and caregivers to be more sensitive and deliberate about moulding the next generation and be well knowledgeable to do it the right way because times are changing”
In attendance was the Marketing Communications Manager, VDT Communications who commented on the significance of the event as being, “a crucial gathering which more parents, teachers and wards must attend in order to be better equipped in caring for children with mental health challenges”.
VDT Communications, one of the leading telecoms solution provider in Nigeria was present at the National Schools Fair to show case premium products and services to school administrators and parents. The Fair took place at Eko Atlantic Waterfront on Saturday 23rd March, 2019.
The event saw the convergence of over 400 schools with 5,000 admission-seeking students and their parents, looking to secure admission for the children in the 2019/2020 academic year and beyond. “The fair was conceived with a view to match Nigeria’s educational institutions with parents and prospective students looking to gain admission into schools”, said the Event Director, NASFAIR, Mr Steve Ike.
VDT Communications was present at the fair to showcase education products and services that would add value to traditional teaching of schools and lower the cost of teaching resources.

At the 2nd Nigeria Tech Innovation & Telecom Awards (NTITA) 2018 VDT took home the award for Internet Service Provider of the Year [Enterprise]. Also the MD/CEO won the award for ICT Man of the Year.

VDT Communications held the 5th graduation dinner for the 2017/2018 VDT Graduate Trainee Program. Among the graduates were Miss Abisola Adeleye, Miss Hamdallah Olani, Mr. Adewunmi Olonode (winner of the Best Graduate Trainee) and Mr. Obi Emmanuel. The graduate trainees spent 1year in the company going through an intensive training of both classroom (instructor-led) and on-the-job training. During this period the Trainees were taken through 12 knowledge areas such as Network Planning and Performance,Metro Fibre, IT etc. Technical Operations, Sales & Marketing, Service Management, Finance & Accounting, Personal Development etc.

Abimbola IKUMARIEGBE [B.A, MBA, SMP, ITIL] formerly the General Manager, Sales & Marketing department of VDT Communications has been elevated to the Deputy Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer (DMD/COO) of the company.
A graduate of English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State, Abimbola also holds an MBA from Obafemi Awolowo University and has attended series of marketing and managerial training programmes. She is an alumnus of the prestigious Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University. Ikumariegbe also has certification in ITIL & she is ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 20000-1:2011 knowledge resource.
Bimbo Ikumariegbe commenced her professional career with Magic Software. After a stint at thecompany as a Sales Executive, she furthered her journey in Bitcom Systems Nigeria Limited, which is now the parent company of VDT Communications. She is a pioneer staff of VDT Communications which she joined in 2001 as a Sales Executive and rose through the ranks to her present position. In all Ikumariegbe has garnered over 17years of cognate experience in the ICT/Telecommunications sector.
An excellent team player and leader, she was instrumental to the formation of the Sales & Marketing Department of VDT Communications and with her pacesetting managerial style, led the growth of the company from a marginal turnover to a firm now worth multiple billions of naira. Under her watch, VDT has also evolved a strong positive brand image with an extensive increase in brand visibility.
With this appointment, Ikumariegbe will bring her wealth of experience to bear on the new role and continually propel the organization to greater heights.
On Sunday, 17th April, 2016, the most important place in Nigeria was arguably City Hall, Lagos. This was the date Lagos stood still for the celebration of our chairman, Alhaji(Dr.) Musiliu Adeola Kunbi Smith’s 70th birthday. This did not come as a surprise owing to fact that Alhaji Smith is a man of many parts with consistent superlative successes and achievements. VDT Communications Limited hosted a Mid-year Lunch for staff across Nigeria on 29th June, 2016 from 1 pm. All our Points of Presence [POPs] were connected to through video conferencing. Mid-year Lunch is a time of interaction and bonding among the management and staff of VDT. MD/CEO also used the opportunity to brief all the staff on the key developments in the brand in the first half of the year and also set agenda for the remaining part of the year. Every staff , no matter the level, had the freedom to air his or her views, ask questions or /and make recommendations on whatever issue in the company. The MD/CEO, Biodun Omoniyi also said that any staff can still reach him on his phone numbers or email addresses on any issue in the company affecting him or her. Champagne flowed freely at the end of the event and each staff was treated to a sumptuous lunch.
VDT hosted a triple impact event last Friday, 10th June, 2016 at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. During the event, the company marked her 15th anniversary, interacted with her customers and unveiled VDT 4G LTE Advanced retail broadband internet service. It was an evening event which kicked-off at 5pm with red carpet and banters among the guests . Great music was supplied by the Konnectors. MC Acapella ensured that all the guests were kept excited through out the event with his funny jokes doled out at the right doses as at and when appropriate. The high points of the event were the unveiling of the VDT 4G LTE Advanced retail broadband internet and cutting of 15th anniversary cake. All the guests were treated to sumptuous meals. The event came to a close at about 8:45pm.
The staff members of VDT Communications Limited have applauded with immense excitement, the 15th anniversary Walk for Fitness which took place on Saturday, 4th June, 2016 in Ikoyi/Victoria Island, Lagos. The walk was part of the activities lined up to celebrate the 15th year anniversary of VDT. The purpose of the walk was to broaden awareness about our 15th anniversary as well as encourage the staff to keep fit. Adequate provisions including ambulance service, police escort, entertainment with a live band and refreshment were made to ensure a hitch-free and exciting walk.
